Fun Things Outside of Town

We suspect you'll have a hard time leaving town before the end of your trip, but should you have a burning desire to see a bit more of the Feather River Canyon! There are a number of excellent nearby trips to take, here are a few.

Hot springs

Take a trip across the bridge and up I-70 for another 40 minutes and you'll find an inconspicuous sign for Woody's Hot Springs.  A short walk down to the river from roadside parking sits a stone tub filled with naturally-steaming mineral waters from the canyon depths.  This dual chamber tub holds both sulfur and lithium soaking tubs.

chico, ca

Lovingly referred to as "Cheeks", this cozy college town is a little-known gem of a city outside of the Bay and home to Chico State University.  Rich with quaint historic architecture, Chico offers a wide variety of restaurants and bars, a great year-round Saturday market, and awesome thrift and vintage shopping. Chico is easily worth the 35 minute drive down the valley.  During summer months be sure to check out the lively Thursday night market with food and craft vendors!

beldontown, ca

Situated on the Pacific Crest Trail and just 10 minutes before the hot springs, this quaint mountain town also lies on the Feather River.  Belden is a great spot to grab a burger, bloody mary and shoot pool on your way back from the springs. They also have quite a selection of fun, seasonal and diverse festivals to attend.

tabletop mountain

This beautiful peak, 15-20 minutes outside of town, is an absolute must-see in the spring as its an astounding field of wildflowers to roll around in.

bass fishing

Just 20 minutes down I-70 on your way to Paradise, Oroville Reservoir is a perfect place to launch your boat for a bass fishing trip.    With ample parking available for boats and trailers, Pulga is a great place to park your boat and enjoy the accommodations we have to offer.  Just send us a note to give us a heads-up that you're bringing out your boat.

Interested in exploring the Canyon in your off-roading vehicle or dirt bike?  We've been told by the wonderful men in the Chico Fire Department who take their bikes out that we live at the entrance of their Disneyland.  Experienced dirt-bikers advised.

Grey Fox Winery"Before founding Grey Fox Vineyards in 1996, the Arrigoni and Cecchi families spent much of their free time pursuing their passion for flying small planes. It was on these getaways that conversations turned to dreams of planting a vineyard and building a winery. Bruce's family had a tradition of making wine at home and Gary had a good chemistry background. A seed was planted and it began to take hold.

They all sought out viticulture courses at U.C. Davis and committed themselves to a new passion--winegrowing. While Bruce, Gary and Jeanne are involved in the vineyard and winery operations, Pat is busy handling sales and wine tasting events. Their goal is to create high quality wine by constantly overseeing and improving their vineyard to produce great fruit.

Come visit Grey Fox and share in the fulfillment and pride of this incredible endeavor. Taste the premium wines and you'll understand why winemaking has become their ultimate passion."
